The Most Reverend Don Tamihere

Te Pīhopa Mātāmua and Archbishop of the Anglican Church in Aotearoa, New Zealand and Polynesia is The Most Reverend Donald Tamihere.

He was installed at Manutuke Marae, Gisborne as Archbishop and Te Pīhopa Mātāmua on 28 April 2018, succeeding Archbishop Brown Turei.

Following his ordination into Holy Orders, Archbishop Don served as Community Priest at Holy Trinity, Gisborne, as Kaihautu Taapapa ki te Tairāwhiti and Centre for Biblical Studies, as Tumuaki of Te Rau College, Gisborne and as Bishop of Te Tairāwhiti, Bishop of Aotearoa, and Te Pīhopa Mātāmua and Archbishop.

Putting God first has been a central message throughout Archbishop Don’s ministry. “God has put a mustard seed of faith within us. And if you put God first, there’s no limit to what you will grow. And become. If the Pihopatanga would decide to put God first, then the Pīhopatanga is going to be more than alright.” In putting God first and in coming together in unity, Archbishop Don exhorts the Church to eradicate injustice, hatred, and violence and instead choose the path of community, peace, kindness, and love.
