Hikoi of Hope
He said therefore, “What is the kingdom of God like? And to what should I compare it? It is like a mustard seed that someone took and sowed in the garden; it grew and became a tree, and the birds of the air made nests in its branches.”
– Ruka / Luke 13:18,19
In 1998, major social issues such as employment, education, housing, health, and poverty inspired the Church to stage The Hikoi of Hope, calling for change and transformation throughout society.
More than twenty years have passed since this Hikoi; the issues addressed then remain and many additional concerns have arisen. Our society is desperate for a message of Justice and Peace. The climate crisis, a greater awareness of racism, questions regarding sexuality and notions of gender, shifts in the global trade system and global politics, the Covid-19 pandemic, and other pressing social issues, call for a response from the Church.
We are launching a charge for Peace and Justice in a Rapidly Changing World – a ‘hikoi’ of wānanga and talanoa across the province, reintroducing prophetic theological teaching and leadership in response to issues such as: climate change; racism; inequality; Treaty Justice; safe practice and ministry standards. Join us.
